The Seward County Saints won their weekend series 3-1 over the Otero Rattlers at Brent Gould Field. Saturday the Saints won game one 10-7 but lost game two 13-12 in 11 innings.
In game one, the Saints came out ready to hit plating seven in the first and three in the second. The Rattler bats came alive with five in the fourth and two in the fifth to make it 10-7. The Saints out-hit the Rattlers 10-7 while Otero had three errors and Seward had one. Nathan Hopkins and Kotaro Wakui had two hits a piece. Jacob Urias drove home two runs. Blaine Clancy doubled in the win. John Langehennig pitched 2/3 scoreless to close out the game.
Game two was a wild won lasting until about 7:20 at night. Seward scored two in the first before Otero took the lead with three in the third. The Saints scored three in the bottom of the third to lead 5-3. Otero scored in the fourth to make it 5-4. Seward used a two run sixth to lead 7-4. Otero changed their weekend fortunes with a six run seventh to lead 10-7. The Saints crept closer with two in the eighth to make it 10-9. Otero scored a run in the top of the ninth to lead 11-9. Seward scored two in the bottom of the ninth to tie the game at 11-11. The Rattlers scored in the top of the 10th to lead 12-11. Emry Cairns delivered a clutch two out single to tie the game in the bottom of the 10th to tie it at 12-12. Otero scored in the top of the 11th to lead 13-12. Seward put runners on first and second with no outs in the bottom of the 11th but failed to score. Otero out-hit the Saints 14-10. The Rattlers had six errors and Seward had two errors. Braden Whipple worked 3 and 2/3 innings allowing two earned runs with nine strikeouts and three walks. Ryan Todd, Brooks Barber, Nathan Hopkins, and Kotaro Wakui had two hits a piece.
Otero is 2-10. Seward is 9-9. The Saints open Jayhawk Conference play Thursday with a double header in Great Bend against Barton. The games air on 1270 and 92.3. Saints Dugout Show at 12:45.
