The Seward County Saints swept the Colby Trojans 14-10 and 19-16 Thursday afternoon and evening at Young Memorial Field in Colby. The Saints rallied from down 8-2 to win game one and down 7-1 to win game two. Seward scored 33 runs and banged out 41 hits in the sweep.
In game one, the Saints scored one in the first. Nathan Hopkins singled and Ryan Todd singled him home with two outs. The Saints scored another run the second. Brooks Barber and Hayden Ramage singled. Brooks Barber scored on an error. The Trojans scored seven in the second on four hits. Three of the runs were unearned. The Saints exploded for an eight run fourth. Grant Cox and Emery Cairns singled to begin the inning. Nathan Hopkins hit a sac fly to left. Colton Rowan was hit by pitch. Brooks Barber singled. Ryan Todd walked with the bases loaded. Kotaro Wakui singled home two to make it 8-6. Hayden Ramage lofted a three run home run into the evergreens in right to make it 9-7. Colby came back with one in the fourth and one in the fifth to tie the game at 9-9. The Trojans plated a run in the fifth to lead 10-9. SCCC scored three in the sixth to take a 13-10 lead. Blaine Chancy ripped a triple to center. Grant Cox doubled him home to tie the game. Emery Cairns sent a two run home run over the wall in right center for the 13-10. The Saints added insurance in the seventh. Kotaro Wakui doubled and Hayden Ramage drove him home with a single. Seward out-hit the Trojans 16-10. Both teams had one error. Cross Durham was Epic Touch Player of the Game going 5 and 1/3 for the win on a day when the wind was blowing out 20-30 miles per hour. He allowed three runs. Hayden Ramage was 4-5 with a home run, a double, and four RBI’s. Emery Cairns was 3-4 with a home run and a double.
In game two, the Saints scored one in the first when Nathan Hopkins cranked a home run to left. The Trojans scored seven in the first. Seward rallied in the fourth with eight runs meaning the Saints scored eight in the fourth in both games. Ryan Todd doubled to lead off the inning. Hayden Ramage singled. Grant Cox singled home a run. Blaine Chancy singled. Emery Cairns connected on a three run home run to right to make it 7-6. Ruben Ayala was hit by a pitch. Nathan Hopkins whistled an RBI double down the third base line to tie the game. Kotaro Wakui’s two run home run off the scoreboard in right center made it 9-7. The Trojans scored three in the fourth to lead 10-9 and two in the fifth to make the score 12-9. A four run sixth gave the “Guys in Green” the lead right back. Kotaro Wakui homered to right to lead off the inning. Brooks Barber made it back to back jacks with a home run to right to make it 12-11. Ryan Todd singled. Hayden Ramage connected on a towering two run home run to left to make it 13-12 Seward. The Saints added a seventh inning run for the 14-12 lead. Kotaro Wakui doubled. Ryan Todd singled him home with two outs. The Trojans struck for three in the bottom of the seventh to lead 15-14. The Saints responded with two in the eighth. Grant Cox singled and Blaine Chancy doubled. Jacob Urias grounded out to score a run to tie the score at 15-15. Nathan Hopkins doubled down the left field line to give the Saints the 16-15 lead. The Saints added three insurance runs in the ninth. Ryan Todd doubled to lead off the inning. Hayden Ramage singled. Blaine Chancy launched a three run home run to right for the 19-15 lead. In the bottom of the ninth, there were two on with one out when Jacob Urias made a diving catch of a foul ball to the right for out number two. Brooks Barber made a good play on a dribbler to third to end it. One run scored in the inning with the tying run on third and the winning run at the plate. Seward out-hit the Trojans 25-15. Hayden Ramage was Epic Touch Player of the Game with a 4-6 showing and a home run. He was 8-11 on the day. Kotaro Wakui was 5-6 with two home runs and three RBI’s. Nathan Hopkins was 3-6 with a home run and two doubles. Ryan Todd was 4-6 with two doubles. Blaine Chancy was 3-5 with three RBI’s, a home run and a double. Emry Cairns was 2-3 with a three run homer. Jacob Urias was 2-3. Stephen Brown made his debut and pitched 3 and 1/3 innings allowing three runs.
Colby is 22-17 overall and 10-8 in the KJCCC West. Seward is 17-23 and 5-13 in the Jayhawk West. The same two teams meet Saturday at 1pm at Brent Gould Field with Saints Dugout Show at 12:45 on 1270 and 92.3.
