Saints Score 27 to Clinch Colby Series

The Seward County Saints won their first Jayhawk West series of the season beating Colby 3-1.  Saturday at Brent Gould Field, the two teams split a double header.  Colby won the first game in a run rule 12-2 before the Saints broke out for a run rule win of their own 27-7 in game two.  The games were played with temperatures in the 80’s and 90’s with winds blowing out at 20-30 miles per hour.

In game one, the Trojans plated two in the second and four in the third to lead 6-0.  The Saints scored two in the bottom of the third to make it 6-2.  Colton Rowan singled with one out.  Nathan Hopkins singled.  Kotaro Wakui singled home a run.  Brooks Barber legged out a fielder’s choice to score the second run.  Colby continued to apply pressure offensively with three in the fourth and three in the fifth to win in a five inning run rule which lasted 1 hour and 23 minutes.  Colby out-hit SCCC 13-7.  Kotaro Wakui was Epic Touch Player of the Game going 2-3.

The Seward offense went off in game two.  The Trojans scored three in the first.  But the Saints put up eight in the first.  It was Seward’s third eight run inning of the series.  Nathan Hopkins walked.  Kotaro Wakui legged out a double.  Brooks Barber walked.  Ryan Todd hit a sac fly to left.  Blaine Chancy was hit by a pitch.  Hayden Ramage singled home two.  Grant Cox hit a sac fly to deep center.  Colton Rowan walked.  Nathan Hopkins hit a mammoth three run home run to left.  Seward added six in the second.  Ryan Todd doubled to lead off the inning.  Blaine Chancy walked.  Hayden Ramage lifted a towering three run home run to left center for the 11-3 lead.  Jacob Urias made it back to back home runs with a line drive home run to left.  Grant Cox doubled.  Nathan Hopkins hit his second home run of the game, a two run shot down the left field line.  CCC scored one in the third.  SCCC scored four in the third.  Ryan Todd singled to lead off the inning.  Blaine Chancy walked.  With two outs, Grant Cox singled.  Colton Rowan singled home two to make the score 16-4.  Nathan Hopkins doubled home a run.  It was 18-4 SCCC after three.  Colby scored in the fourth and the fifth to make it 18-6.  Seward unleashed a seven spot in the fifth.  Hayden Ramage walked.  Jacob Urias whistled a double to left.  Grant Cox hit a three run home run to left.  Nathan Hopkins walked.  Kotaro Wakui singled.  Brooks Barber walked.  Ryan Todd hit a grand slam for the 25-6 lead.  Colby scored in the sixth.  Seward scored two in the seventh.  Taiga Yanagimoto doubled to lead off the inning.  Ruben Ayala and Colton Rowan walked.  Nathan Hopkins singled home two.  SCCC out-hit CCC 19-12.  Nathan Hopkins was Epic Touch Player of the Game going 4-4 with eight RBI’s.  Ryan Todd was 3-4 with five RBI’s.  Kotaro Wakui was 3-5.  Hayden Ramage was 2-4 with five RBI’s.  Grant Cox was 3-3.  Jacob Urias was 2-3.

Colby falls to 23-18 and 11-9 in the Jayhawk West. Seward is 19-24 and 6-14 in the Jayhawk West.  The Saints play Garden City Thursday at 1pm at Brent Gould Field with Saints Dugout Show at 12:45 on 1270 and 92.3.
