Liberal, Kansas – Seward County shattered the record books on Wednesday afternoon by scoring 11 goals for the most goals scored in a single game by the Saints in program history which allowed them to blow away the Blue Jays in an 11-1 win with seven different players finding ways to score for SCCC in an emphatic victory.
It was a scary scene in the opening minutes against Tabor with a miscalculation from the Saints’ back line led to an own goal to put Seward County behind 1-0 against the Blue Jays before Felipe Flores locked the score back up at 1-1 off the throw in from Leonardo Leitao. Alexander Stevens-Lee kept the Saints momentum rolling as he pushed ahead up field while finding Enrico Del Ellis with a pin-point pass to lead to the freshman forward’s first career goal to give the Saints a 2-1 lead. The next few minutes was a Chad Haynes highlight real with Haynes feeding Leitao for Seward County’s third goal and moments later scored goal number four of the afternoon on his own to put SCCC in front 4-1.
After scoring his first career goal with the Saints Del Ellis was not satisfied as he added to the scoring barrage with his second goal off a deflection from the Tabor goalkeeper to sink in another goal for a 5-1 lead. Fin McCole in the final minutes of the first half took full control as he scored the next two goals for Seward County off of dimes from Pedro Santos and Jose Alberto Sanchez to climb ahead of the Blue Jays 7-1 entering halftime.
It was not long into the second half for the Saints to resume their scoring run with Javier Ruchelli Alvarez threading the needle to Leitao for his second goal of the afternoon before Haynes added in his second goal off the feed from Flores to make it a 9-1 game in favor of Seward County. Alberto Sanchez and Mateo Molina rounded out the Saints scoring with their first goals of their careers with Fernando Moura Filho and Kyle Kerr-Miller each recording assists on the final two goals of the afternoon with Seward County wrapping up the contest with an 11-1 win over Tabor.
The Saints now improve to 3-2-3 on the 2024 campaign while maintaining a conference record of 0-1-3 in Jayhawk Conference action. Seward County will resume conference play this Saturday as they begin a five-game road stint beginning with a trip to Coffeyville to face the Red Ravens in a 6:00 PM kickoff.
