Saints Prove to be Best of the Rest at NJCAA Tournament

For the third straight time the Saints have made the NJCAA Tournament in Hutchinson, they come home with the third place trophy. Saturday night the Saints capped off their basketball season with a 77-62 win over #8 Eastern Oklahoma State.

The Saints used a full court press and trapping defense to force 19 turnovers and win the points off turnovers category 21-6.

Irvin Hollinger led the Saints with 22 points in his final SCCC game. Daveon Boardingham scored 18 points and grabbed 11 rebounds as the tandem finishes 58-14 in two seasons at Seward. Deverell Biggs added 13 and Edson Avila scored 12 points and pulled down nine rebound in a physical game.

The Mountaineers, making their first NJCAA appearance since 1961 led 30-27 at halftime as the Saints were 6-16 at the foul line. Seward finished just 15-30 from the stripe. The Saints began the second half on a 9-0 run and didn’t allow Eastern Oklahoma State to score until the 14:40 mark of the second half. Seward led by as many as 20 in route to the win.

The Saints finish 31-7 and Eastern Oklahoma State finishes 32-5.
