Saturday afternoon the Seward County Saints soccer team made a trip down the road to Garden City for a rivalry matchup between the Saints and Broncbusters where both sides fought down to the final seconds of the clock with the score remaining blank at the final buzzer and both sides earning a result with a 0-0 finish.
Both sides continuously fought back and forth throughout all 90:00 minutes of action with both sides finding very few chances to get shots off against their opponents. Leonardo Leitao ended up being fouled in the box and received a PK attempt but missed just outside the cross bar to remain scoreless in the game. Felipe Flores and Alexander Stevens-Lee found opportunities of their own off of some pinpoint passes from their teammates but also came up just short of a goal.
The Broncbusters had opportunities of their own presented with drives down the field but could not overcome the ferocity of the Saints defense led by reigning NJCAA National Goalkeeper of the Week Bruno Mestres who once again was a force in front of the goal. Garden City managed to launch 6 shots on goal against Seward County but were all knocked away by Mestres who added on to his save total for the season to keep the Broncbusters at bay and end the matchup with a 0-0 draw.
Seward County now sits at 1-1-3 on the 2024 season and remain undefeated in KJCCC action with a 0-0-3 record against Jayhawk conference opponents. The Saints will now turn their attention towards Kansas Wesleyan when they head back on the road for their final of three straight away games to face KWU on September 11th at 6:00 PM.
