LIBERAL, Kan. – Lova Andriatsarafar and Muhammed Jobe combined for 39 points and 17 rebounds, but it was not enough as the Seward County Community College men’s basketball team fell to Independence Community College, 70-63, on Wednesday at the Greenhouse.
The Saints dropped to 1-8 in the Jayhawk Conference and 2-12 overall. Seward, which has lost four games in a row, hosts Coffeyville at 4 p.m. on Saturday in the Greenhouse. TopVolt Solar is the gameday sponsor.
The teams played close throughout with Seward trailing 29-27 at the half. It was a back-and-forth contest in the second half and the Saints eventually took a 47-45 lead with 7:52 remaining. Seward could not hold on and Independence went on a run and opened a 63-57 advantage with just under three minutes left. SCCC stuck around, but could not overcome the deficit.
Jobe had a game-high 22 points, Andriatsarafar chipped in with 17 points and 13 rebounds and Kiku Parker netted 10 points for the Saints.
Chinate Tramble had 20 points and Chris Dockery and Cedric Dixon each scored 13 points to pace the Pirates, who improved to 3-5 in conference play and evened their overall record at 7-7.
