Saints-Butler Series Begins with Split in El Dorado then Moves to Sunday

The Seward County baseball team split a road double header Thursday afternoon in El Dorado against the first place Butler Grizzlies.  The Saints won the first game 6-3 and the Grizzlies took game two 8-7 in a walk off at McDonald Stadium.

Tanner King regained his stellar form in game one.  After two straight rough outings to begin KJCCC play, King gave the Saints a complete game win.  King pitched all seven innings with seven strikeouts and allowed only three hits.  The Saints got three home runs in the win.  Cayde Ward, KP Werner, and Benny Ayala blasted homers in hitter friendly McDonald Stadium.  The Saints plated three in the first, one in the fourth, and two in the fifth.

In game two, the Saints built a 4-0 lead with three in the first and one in the second.  The Grizzlies countered with three in the third and one in the fourth to tie it.  Seward regained the lead with two in the fifth to lead 6-4.  Butler answered with one in the fifth and two in the sixth to lead the Saints 7-6.  Seward tied the game in the seventh at 7-7.  Butler scored a run in the bottom of the ninth to walk off with a win.  Seward’s Cole Evans went 4 and 2/3 innings allowing five runs with six strikeout and four walks.  Cory Didier went 2/3 allowing two runs.  Braedon Gould was solid working three innings with five strikeouts, no walks, and one run.  Ryan Thomas took the loss in the ninth allowing one run.  Benny Ayala homered again for his fifth of the year.  AJ Folds had two hits in the loss.

The Saints are 13-12 and 5-5 in the Jayhawk West and Butler is 16-7 overall and 7-3 in the Jayhawk West.  Seward hosts Butler at Brent Gould Field in Liberal.  The game has been moved from Saturday to Sunday due to the weather forecast for Saturday.  The game Sunday begins at 1 with the Saints Dugout Show at 12:45 on 1270 and kscbnews.net.
