Saints and Conqs Scoreless in Tie

Seward County ended their list of road games for the 2024 regular season in Dodge City where the Saints and Conqs ended their second regular season matchup in a shutout draw that earned both sides a 1-point result in the KJCCC standings.

The two Jayhawk conference rivals competed throughout all 90:00 minutes of action in a dominating display of defensive intensity as neither side backed down in a battle for positioning in the postseason just a few weeks away. The Saints were able to get a few shots on goal off against the Conqs with Leonardo Leitao and Javier Ruchelli Alvarez both launching in an attempt to score but could not connect as the scoreboard remained blank at 0-0. The reigning KJCCC Player of the Week in Felipe Flores was able to get another shot off for Seward County to try and recreate his magic from his previous outing but failed to ignite the spark for his team as he missed just outside.

Despite their struggles on offense, the Saints defensive fortitude remained strong with Bruno Mestres returning to the field and as always proved to be a human wall as he knocked away all 6 of Dodge City’s attempts. The back line on Alexander Stevens-Lee, Juan Pablo Murillo Pazos, and Gustavo Chavez helped boot away any other attempts the Conqs tried to create as Seward County continued to force their way down field but neither side was able to capitalize as the final horn sounded with the score sheet blank in a 0-0 draw.

The Saints now sit at 6-4-5 overall on the 2024 season with a Jayhawk conference record of 2-3-5. They will remain home for their final two games of the 2024 regular season as they prepare for Coffeyville next Wednesday in an 8:00 PM kickoff on Redskin Field followed by a 4:00 PM matchup with Barton on October 26th for sophomore night.
