Brock Kappelmann - May 13, 2024 5:27 pm

Two Liberal golfers, the same two Liberal golfers, have qualified for state.  Senior Ryan Mein and Jr. Skyler Hubbard both qualified for state Monday afternoon at the Derby Country Club.  Both made state in 2023 as well.  Mein has now made state all four of his golf seasons.

Ryan Mein shot an 83 and placed 11th.  Skyler Hubbard carded an 85 and was 13th.  Hudson Rice  and Landon Martinez both shot a 99.  Caden Lamm finished with a 101 and Blayden Betts had a 106.

The Redskins placed fifth as a team.  Derby won the tournament as their  six golfers all finished in the top 10.

1. Derby 294

2. Dodge City 325

3. Maize 340

4. Garden City 358

5. Liberal 366

6. Wichita Northwest 424

7. Campus 485

Head coach Nick Rotolo’s comments:

“Fortunately the rain stayed asway but plenty overnight that made the course soggy.  All 6 battled hard and thought we would get 1-2 more in and were in the race for 3rd for a while.”

State is closer to home  and at Garden City’s Buffalo Dunes on Monday and Tuesday.
