Roundabout, resurfacing project to begin in Ford County
Traffic changes are scheduled to start Monday, March 6, for two roadway projects in Ford County. The first project will take place at the U.S. 56/ 283/ 400/South 2nd Avenue intersection to construct a roundabout. Then, the second is a resurfacing project that will extend from the 112 Road/ U.S. 56/400 intersection one mile south to the intersection of 112 Road/Outlaw Road and then extend one mile west to the U.S. 283/Outlaw Road intersection.
For the roundabout project, traffic will be controlled at times as the contractor sets up traffic control and builds bypass roads south of U.S. 56/400 to connect to U.S. 283. When construction on the roundabout begins, two-way traffic will be routed on the bypass roads around the work zone, and South 2nd will be closed to traffic until the intersection reconstruction is complete. No significant delays to traffic are expected. Updates will be released on this project as work progresses.
The resurfacing project consists of overall roadway improvements and concrete pavement. County roads within the resurfacing project will be closed intermittently as needed as construction progresses.
KOSS Construction, of Topeka, is the contractor on this $18.1 million project, which is expected to be completed by the end of December, weather permitting.
