Rindels Provides Late Fireworks for Bee Jays

KSCB News - July 5, 2009 12:00 am

A Tanner Rindels gapper to left center drove home Kevin Carby and gave the Liberal Bee Jays (15-13, 8-10) a 7-6 win in ten innings in front of a large and patient crowd at Brent Gould Field on the Fourth of July. Liberal’s bullpen picked them up and their offense never quit in a game Liberal trailed 6-2 going to the bottom of the sixth. Liberal won despited being out-hit 13-5. Dodge City pitching walked 11 batters and beaned two. Both teams committed three errors a piece and stranded a combined 23 runners on base. A BJ bright spot was their bullpen. They didn’t allow a run. Cal State LA’s Camron Collard was the first to relieve starter Logan Odom who pitched four and two-thirds innings. Collard pitched an inning and one-third, OSU’s Brett Davis pitched one inning, Emporia State’s Diego Soto went two innings striking out four, and Bobby Doran (2-2) pitched a scoreless 10th for the win. Liberal tied the game in the seventh when Pepperdine’s Bryce Baugh ripped a double into left scoring two runs to tie the game. A fly ball to center would end the inning on a double play as Alex Williams tried to score the lead run on a sacrifice fly but Dodge City’s Landon Anderson threw him out for the double play. No one scored again until Rindels laced a pitch to left center to drive home the winning run and give the crowd their fireworks. Baugh went 2-3 with three RBI’s for Liberal. The game lasted about three hours and forty minutes. The fireworks began about five minutes after the game. The A’s are 12-12 overall and 3-10 in the Jayhawk League. The two teams play again Sunday night at 7:00 PM on Brent Gould Field. The game will air on Talkradio 1270 and kscb.net. Southern Pioneer Electric is the buyout sponsor.
