Traffic reductions are scheduled to start Monday, May 13, for highway work that will take place along U.S. 56 from the east city limits of Montezuma east to the U.S. 56/283/400 2nd Street intersection in Ford/ Gray counties. The U.S. 400 bypass west of Dodge City will also be resurfaced, according to the Kansas Department of Transportation,
This 27-mile project will take place in smaller sections to reduce the impact on the traveling public. The contractor will start in Montezuma and will head east. Motorists should be aware of delays of up to 15 minutes as one-lane traffic will be directed by flaggers and a pilot car through the work zone. Signs and cones will mark the lane reduction. U.S. 56 will be open to normal traffic when construction is not taking place.
Venture Corporation, from Great Bend, is the contractor on this $8 million project. Weather permitting, it is expected to be completed by mid-August.
