The Liberal Redskins finish in third place in 5A. The Skins take home the bronze from state for the third time and for a second consecutive season. The Redskins kicked past Emporia 4-1 Saturday at Hummer Sports Park in Topeka. Liberal sophomore Isai Gutierrez and freshman Eduardo Moreno scored two goals a piece in the win. Moreno added two assists while Gutierrez and junior Joe Pena added assists. Liberal finishes third after that win and a 1-0 loss in a shootout to Bishop Miege Friday. Aquinas beat Miege to win state 2-0 Saturday. Liberal finishes 17-4 and loses seniors defensemen Eduardo Campos and Omar Palma. Liberal will be one of the favorites to return back to the “final 4” next year where they’ve been six of the past seven years.
