Redskins Run All Over Ulysses

The Liberal Redskins rushed for over 400 yards on their way to a 53-6 win over the Ulysses Tigers at Maxwell Stadium in Ulysses Friday night.  James Fieser caught three touchdown passes from Tevin Cotter in a game which the Redskins led 39-0 at the half.

On the first play from scrimmage, Tevin Cotter lofted a 67 yard TD to James Fieser for the 6-0 lead at the PAT missed.  Max Holman intercepted a Ulysses pass on the ensuing drive.  Ayden Juarez ripped off a 26 yard touchdown run for the 13-0 lead at the 10:49 mark.  Cotter found Fieser again for an 11 yard score in the northwest end zone as Fieser toe tapped both feet in the corner for the 19-0 lead at the 5:25 mark.  Liberal went for two but failed.  Wyatt Mannel intercepted a pass at the 4:28 mark.  Then Nick Martinez of Ulysses intercepted a pass.  It was 19-0 aftter one.  Tevin Cotter hooked up with James Fieser for a 19 yard score at the 10:53 mark to lead 25-0 after the PAT was blocked.  Alex Schwindt’s nine yard TD at the 4:27 mark made it 32-0.  Xavier Tafoya ripped off a 14 yard run for a 39-0 lead after the PAT with 2:13 remaining at the half.  It was 39-0 at halftime.

Ulysses scored first in the second half as Tye Perez flipped a TD pass to Preston Hittle in the southwest end zone to make it 39-6 with 6:30 to play in the 3rd.  Xavier Tafoya’s 29 yard TD run made it 46-6.  Landon Martinez recovered a fumble.  Tafoya’s 36 yard TD run made it 53-6 after the PAT.

LHS had 502 yards of offense and held the Tigers to 127 yards.  Ayden Juarez carried seven times for 117 yards while Xavier Tafoya had five carries for 121 yards.  James Fieser had four catches for 94 yards and three touchdowns and was named Epic Touch Player of the Game.  Tevin Cotter was 7-13 for 119 yards with three touchdowns and one interception.

Ulysses drops their 24th straight game and falls to 0-7.  Liberal is 5-2 assuring themselves of their first back to back winning seasons since 2004-05.  Liberal plays at Hays Friday with Redskin Pre-game at 6pm on 1270 and 92.3.  Kickoff set for 7pm.
