These Redskins don’t give up on a game or a season. Liberal was 3-11 but has won 7 of their last 8 heading to state with a 58-53 overtime win over Salina Central. The Redskins trailed by as many as 14. Indications are they will play former LHS head coach Rod Briggs’s Lansing Wednesday at state in Topeka.

Central led 11-10 after one quarter before bolting to a 26-12 lead in the second quarter. The Skins crept closer trailing just 26-18 at the half. The Mustangs led 34-25 in the third quarter before an 11-1 run by the Redskins gave the Skins a 36-35 lead after three when Osvaldo Villareal banked in a 10 footer from the left side.

Central looked poised for a Topeka trip leading 45-40 with under three minutes remaining. William Ross drained a left wing three pointer and Osvaldo Villareal nailed a right wing three to give the Skins a 46-45 lead. Salina Central’s Kyle McQuage made it 47-46. Liberal led 48-47 with :57 left. Central took a 49-48 lead on a McQuage lay up. William Ross was fouled in the lane with :14.6 remaining. He made one of two free throws to tie the game. A 35 footer by Central missed sending the game to overtime. A DeVondre Livinston three point play gave LHS a 52-49 lead they would not relinquish in OT.

William Ross scored a career high 18 while DeVondre Livingston scored 14. J.J. Lewis scored 12.

The Redskins are 10-12 while Central finishes 13-9.
