Brock Kappelmann - September 1, 2022 3:54 pm

The arrow is pointing up for the Redskin soccer program.  A proud program slipped to 5-11 in 2021 due to youth, injuries, and quarantines.  But the numbers are back up with the optimism under second year head coach Carlos Ruiz.  There are 55 boys out for soccer and for the first time, the program with have a C team and have three teams with a varsity, junior varsity, and C team. Interest is particularly strong with younger players as there are only two seniors in the program.  This is year two for Ruiz who stepped in for legendary Lori Navarro after Navarro was 9-4 in her last season of 2020.  The program started in  1998 and compiled a 291-97-14 record with 22 winning seasons in the first 23 seasons. The Redskins have won the Western Athletic Conference 13 times, including 11 in a row.  Liberal won the state in 2011.

Some of the key Redskins are Sr. forward Suain Moncayo. Jr. defense Gio Reyes, So. goalkeeper Gael Ruvalcaba, S. forward Giezi Gonzalez, Jr. midfielder Seth Michel, Jr. defense Alejandro Gutierrez, Jr. utility player George Tejeda, Jr. forward Erick Garcia, Jr. mid fielder Jonathan Rios, Sr. defense Tony Rodriguez, So. mid fielder Orlando Munoz, and Sr. center midfielder Manny Ortuno who KSHSAA names as one of the top 25 players to watch.
