Redskins Hold Off Hays
Brock Kappelmann - February 10, 2017 10:31 pm
The Liberal Redskins added a new chapter to the 2016-17 season Friday night in Hays. Losing their post Deladris Green to injury in the first quarter, Liberal built a lead of 11 and then held on to beat Hays 43-42 on homecoming night in Hays. And even better news, Green’s injury is not believed to be season ending.
The Redskins trailed 13-12 at the end of the first quarter against the Indians. The second quarter brought a spark from the Redskins and they led at the half 26-17. LHS led 26-15 before the end of the first half.
The Redskins led by as many as 11 early in the 2nd half 28-17 and then again 30-19 before Hays rallied back to cut the lead to 2 in the 3rd. The Redskins pulled ahead and finished the 3rd with a 4 point lead 35-31. They would go on to win the game by one point with the final score of 43-42.
Hinkle led the Skins with 15 points and Kylan Thomas had 13. Markalyn Eatmon, Tyrik King and Cole Evans also helped the Redskins with their win with 9, 2, and 4 points respectively. Deladris Green left early in the game with a minor ankle injury. The Redskins went 4 and 13 from the arc and 7 and 11 from the free throw line.
Liberal moves to 14-2 and 4-1 in the WAC and Hays falls 10-5 and 3-2 in the WAC. The Redskins will host the Cimarron Bluejays on Tuesday night in the Big House with pregame starting around 7:45 on 1270 and kscbnews.net.
