Redskins Hold Off Great Bend to Keep WAC Lead

In a low possession game, Great Bend was thinking upset. They cut the LHS lead to two with two minutes to play but the #4 Liberal Redskins hung on to beat the Panthers 49-45 Saturday night on homecoming night in the Big House. LHS remains all alone in first in the WAC keeping 5-2 Garden City and 5-2 Hays a half game behind.
The Redskins led 16-8 after one and 20-14 at the half. The Skins led 37-30 after three. The Redskins made 51 percent of their shots (16-31). LHS was 5-16 from three point range and 12-17 at the foul line.
Cade Hinkle scored 16 and Deladris Green had 15. Kylan Thomas scored nine. Liberal has won six straight and 10 of the past 11 against Great Bend.
As for homecoming, Jada Mickens was homecoming queen and John Francis was named king. The other queen candidates were Amira Coleman, Leslie Laguna, and Jazmine Mendoza. The king candidates were Kylan Thomas, Kaiden Bigham, and Joel Berumen. The crown bearer was Logan Brock and the flower girl Avril Maldonado.
The Redskins are 16-2 for the first time since 2008. They are 5-1 in the WAC while Great Bend is 2-5 in the WAC and 4-13 overall. Liberal plays at Garden City who is 5-2 in the WAC and 9-10 overall Tuesday at about 7:45 on 1270 and kscbnews.net.
