Redskins Handle Great Bend in WAC Opener

The Liberal soccer team is 4-0 after a 6-2 win in the WAC opener in Great Bend Thursday evening. Eliel Gonzalez scored four goals in the win. LHS led shots on goal 13-5 and led 3-0 at halftime.

Pedro Lara scored on a penalty kick from inside the 18. Great Bend played 10 on 11 the rest of the way after the penalty. Gonzalez scored on a free kick from 30 yards out for his first of four goals. Alejandro Gutierrez scored Liberal’s final goal at the 75th minute. Great Bend scored the first goal of the second half to make it 3-1 to make the game closer for moments.

Liberal is 4-0 and 1-0 in the WAC. They host Dodge City Tuesday at 5:45 at the Cornelsen Sports Complex. National Beef bought out the game. LHS hosts Garden City on Thursday.
