Liberal was impressive in the WAC opener. Playing for the first time in 10 days and playing with a 54 degree temperature and light rain falling, LHS showed no ill effects from those circumstances. The Redskins beat Dodge City 11-2 Tuesday evening at Dodge City’s Demon Field.
The Redskins scored two in the first, three in the second, four in the third, and two in the fourth for an 11-0 lead. The Red Demons struggled defensively with six errors.
LHS scored two in the first when Evans blasted a towering home run to left cutting through a cross wind. He hit a three run homer to center in the second for a 5-0 lead. In the third, Cesar Burciaga singled home a run. Jett Brown singled home two. Kaleb Wilmes grounded out but drove home another run. Alex Carrillo added his third hit in the fourth and scored on a Burciaga triple which blasted off the wall in left center. Burciaga scored on a wild pitch.
Evans is 5-0 after pitching the complete seven inning game with 95 pitches. The KSHSAA pitch count limit is 105 pitches. Evans struck out eight.
