Redskins Clobber Tigers

Brock Kappelmann - September 21, 2024 7:32 am

The Liberal Redskins began last season 3-0 for the first time in 20 years.  After a 56-0 win over Guymon Friday night at Redskin Field, the Redskins are 3-0 for a second straight year.  Xavier Porras ran for 271 yards which is 4th most in Redskin history.   The Redskins amassed 435 yards and held the Tigers to 94 yards.

Alex Schwindt capped off the opening drive with a three yard touchdown at the 9:41 mark.  Horacio Casas kicked the PAT and made all eight PAT attempts.  Xavier Porras 13 yard run at the 2:06 mark gave the Skins a 14-0 lead after one quarter.  Alex Schwindt intercepted a pass in front of the Guymon sideline at the 8:31 mark of the second quarter.  Xavier Porras six yard run at the 7:05 mark made it 21-0.  Ayden Juarez intercepted a pass at the 5:50 mark.  Tevin Cotter hooked up with Anthony Aragonez on a fade in the back of the southwest end zone for a 28-0 lead with 3:55 to play.  The Angry Red for the Tigers to a three and out and a punt setting up another scoring drive.  Alex Schwindt’s one yard run with 10 second left in the first half led the Redskins to a 35-0 halftime lead.  Xavier Porras raced 38 yards for a score at the 9:19 mark.  Wyatt Mannel’s two yard run at the 1:12 mark of the third quarter made it 49-0 and set up the running clock.  Andy Nguyen’s interception began the fourth quarter.  Xavier Porras tossed a touchdown to Marco Alonso from one yard out for the 56-0 lead.

More individual defensive stats will be added to the story later.  Porras big night trails only a 312 yard rushing night by Kenny Wilson in 2002 against Goddard, and Eric Rosel 284 yard rushing game in 1996 against Campus, and Britton Abbott’s 283 yards rushing in 2013 at Goddard Eisenhower.

The Redskins have won 22 straight against GHS and haven’t lost to the Tigers since 1989.

Guymon is 1-3 and hosts Gruver Friday.  Liberal is 3-0 and hosts Dodge City for homecoming Friday night at 7pm at Redskin Field with Redskin Pre-game at 6pm on 1270 and 92.3.
