Redskins Blank Guymon
Brock Kappelmann - September 10, 2016 7:19 am
Liberal’s young defense stood tall Friday night in a 14-0 win at a packed Guymon Memorial Stadium Friday night. Liberal allowed just 67 yards against the Tigers in their first shutout and road win since a 20-0 win at Ark City on Halloween of 2014. Liberal wins their 17th consecutive game over Guymon.
The Redskins controlled the ball for most of the night and moved the ball most of the night. Liberal’s main achilles heel was turnovers. Liberal had four of them or they might have scored more than 14. The Skins finally scored on a fourth and goal from inside the one when Zach Mansell blasted in for the score with 8:03 to play in the first half. After Guymon’s punter bobbled a dropped a snap, Liberal’s Jimmy Avalos blocked the punt in the third quarter as LHS recovered at the Tiger one. Mansell scored on the next play and a Cesar Burciaga PAT. Guymon recovered two fourth quarter fumbles. Burciaga rushed for 66 yards.
Liberal is 1-1 and Guymon is 0-2. The Skins play at 1-1 Hays for the WAC opener Friday night at Lewis Field in Hays. Redskin Pre-game begins at 6 with kick off at 7 on 1270 and kscbnews.net.
