Redskins Blank Great Bend to Make it to Final Four

No other soccer program in all classes has been as consistent in the post season as the Liberal Redskins. After a 1-0 win at Great Bend in the 5A quarterfinals on Tuesday evening, LHS makes it to their 10th final four in 11 years.

But this looked like the season many thought the Redskins had just too many issues to overcome on the field to make it. But after a 2-6 WAC season, the Redskins again are the lone team waving the WAC banner into November.

Sammy Cruz scored a goal with 2;17 remaining in the game to give the Redskins the lead and then the win. Jason Rios assisted Cruz on the goal. Great Bend actually led the shots on goal category 12-10. Liberal is 10-8-1 and avenges two losses to the Panthers during the regular season.

The Redskins play at Topeka’s Hummer Sports Park Friday at a time and against a team to be announced.
