Redskins and Buffaloes Split a Wild One in the Wind

With wind gusts up to 45 miles per hour, the Liberal Redskins played a wild one in game one.  Garden City built a 7-0 lead but the Redskins rallied to win 20-8 in five innings.  Garden City won game two 7-3 as the wind calmed.

In game one, the Buffaloes scored two in the first and five in the second.  The Redskins answered with five in the second.  Skyler Hubbard doubled to lead off the inning.  Xavier Porras singled him home.  Austin Dodge line a two run inside the park home run over the center fielder to make it 7-3.  Eathan Hernandez and Ethan Olmstead singled.  Alex Schwindt launched a two RBI triple to make it 7-5.  LHS scored 13 runs on eight hits in the third.  Skyler Hubbard led off the inning with a triple.  Austin Dodge singled home a run.  Ethan Olmstead singled home a run.  Marco Alonso singled home two for the lead.  Landon Martinez singled.  Syler Hubbard singled home a run.  Ethan Olmstead singled home two.  Alex Schwindt grounded out to score a run.  Blayden Betts singled and Liberal led 18-8.  The Skins plated two in the bottom of the fourth.  After an error, Skyler Hubbard doubled home a run.  Xavier Porras singled and advanced on an error.  LHS scored on another error.  Liberal out-hit GCHS 17-4.  Garden had six errors and Liberal had three.  Skyler Hubbard was Epic Touch Player of the Game going 4-4 with four runs, a triple, and two doubles.  Ethan Olmstead was 3-5 with three runs and three RBI’s.  Blayden Betts, Marco Alonso, Xavier Porras, and Austin Dodge had two hits a piece.  Dodge had three RBI’s and three runs scored.  Skyler Hubbard calmed the waters on the mound going three scoreless innings with three strikeouts and one walk.

In game two, the Buffaloes scored one in the first.  The Skins took the lead with two in the second.  Xavier Porras doubled home a run.  Austin Dodge singled home a run for the 2-1 lead.  GCHS scored four runs on four hits in the third to lead 5-2.  In the bottom of the third, Blayden Betts singled and advanced to third on an error.  Marco Alonso hit a sac fly to make it 5-3.  Liberal didn’t muster a hit the rest of the night.  Garden City scored one in the fifth and one in the sixth.  Alex Schwindt was Epic Touch Player of the Game with four innings pitched allowing one earned run with five strikeouts and two walks.  All five Buffaloes who walked scored.  The Buffs out-hit the Skins 7-5.  Liberal had two errors and GCHS had one.

Garden City is 2-3 overall and 1-2 in the WAC.  Liberal is 3-5 and 1-1 in the WAC.  Liberal hosts Goddard Eisenhower Tuesday at 4pm at the National Beef Sports Complex.
