The Liberal Redskins were leading the Hugoton Eagles 2-0 in the middle of the fourth inning of game one Friday. They scored six runs in the bottom of the inning to blow the game open and never looked back on the way to a sweep of the Eagles 10-0 and 23-8 Friday afternoon and evening at the National Beef Sports Complex.
In game one, the Skins scored one in the first and one in the third before pouring on six in the fourth and two in the sixth for the run rule. The Redskins out-hit the Eagles 13-3. HHS had four errors and LHS had two. Marco Alonso pitched four dominant innings with nine strikeouts and one walk. Austin Dodge worked two scoreless and hitless innings. Ethan Olmstead was 2-4 with two doubles and three RBI’s. Alex Schwindt was 2-4 with three runs. Xavier Porras and Skyler Hubbard added two hits a piece.
The Redskins wasted no time in game two putting up 10 first inning runs. Hugoton scored three in the second before LHS plated two to lead 12-3. The Eagles used a five run third to pull within 12-8. But the Redskins answered with four in the third and seven in the fourth for the run rule win. Liberal out-hit Hugoton 16-6. The Eagles committed seven errors and Liberal did not have an error. Marco Alonso was 3-5 with six RBI’s. Landon Martinez was 3-3 with a triple. Skyler Hubbard was 2-3 with four runs and three RBI’s. Bren Kappelmann was 2-4 with four RBI’s and two runs. Ethan Olmstead and Alex Schwindt were 2-4 with three runs each.
Liberal is 2-4 and hosts Garden City Tuesday for a 4pm double header at the National Beef Sports Complex with Redskin Pre-game at 3:45 on 1270 and 92.3.
