Rattler Night Returns

Brock Kappelmann - July 3, 2023 7:20 am

The Liberal Bee Jays and Liberal Rattlers got back together for a Rattler Night return Sunday night at Brent Gould Field.  A sizeable crowd turned out for the game.  It was very much an exhibition game.  Bee Jay pitchers pitched for the Rattlers.  B.J. coach Kelby Tomlinson played for the Rattlers.  The Rattlers only retired one man in the third but they switched innings anyway.  But for what it’s worth, the Bee Jays won 15-4.  The B.J.’s used 10 pitchers on the night.   Two B.J. pitchers pitched for the Rattlers.  But the Rattlers did have highlights.  Erek Lira lashed a two RBI double off the wall in left to drive home two runs.  Aidan Schwindt was 2-3 against college pitching.  Alex Schwindt launched a throw from right center to brother Aidan Schwindt to throw out a runner trying to score.  Gunner Post made some nice catches in foul ground at first, including one grab near the wall.  Jhett Huffman pitched the first three innings and was competitive.  J. Brooks Kappelmann went three innings with three strikeouts and did pitch a scoreless inning.  Kelby Tomlinson slugged a two run home run to the trees in left for the Rattlers.  For the Bee Jays, for Rattler Jett Brown was 3-4 and River Jackson had three hits and a home run.

The Bee Jays host the Dodge City A’s for the 4th of July Game Tuesday night at 7pm on 1270 and 92.3 with pre-game at 6:45.  Community Bank, the City of Liberal, and Seward County are the buyout sponsors.  Fireworks will follow the game.  The Rattlers play a tournament at Garden City beginning Friday morning.
