Piedmont Rallies Past Redskins for Guthrie Title

The class 6A Oklahoma Piedmont Wildcats rallied past the Liberal Redskins 6-4 Saturday night for the Guthrie 89er Tournament title at Squires Field in Guthrie Saturday night.  LHS finished runner up and 2-1 at the event.

The Redskins struck first with three in the second.  Piedmont rallied with four in the third.  The Skins tied the scored 4-4 with a run in the sixth.  Piedmont scored two in the sixth to lead 6-4.

Liberal lost despite out hitting Piedmont 9-4.  Liberal had one error and Piedmont had one.  LHS pitching walked seven.  Zayden Martinez pitched five strong innings with four strikeouts, four walks, and three earned runs.  Aidan Schwindt was 2-4 with two RBI’s.  Brooks Kappelmann was 2-4.  LHS did not have an extra base hit.

Liberal’s five game win streak ends as the Redskins fall to 7-7.  Piedmont is 20-12.  Liberal hosts Russell was 3pm Tuesday at the National Beef Sports Complex.
