Two Panhandle firefighters who lost their lives in the line of duty over the past two years will be honored at the State Capitol in Austin on Wednesday.
Both Zeb Smith with the Fritch Volunteer Fire Department and Scott Glass with the Perryton Fire Department will be honored on April 2.
The Volunteer Firefighter Line of Duty Death Memorial Service will take place on the Texas Capitol building grounds.
The State Firefighters’ and Fire Marshals Association of Texas holds the memorial to remember and pay respects to volunteer firefighters who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to their community.
Smith, Glass and nine other Texas firefighters will be honored.
Families as well as brothers and sisters from the departments will gather at the Volunteer Firemen’s Memorial Monument on the south lawn of the Texas Capitol.
Each family receives a flag that has been flown over the Capitol building, and the names of those who died will be etched into the monument to be forever memorialized.
