Pancake Day to Attempt World Record

There’s extra excitement in the air for the 75th International Pancake Day Event, this Feb 10th-13th. Along with our famous International Ladies Race vs. Olney England, our marvelous Pancake Breakfast, the historic IPD Parade, and a flurry of other events on the calendar, we have added to the IPD 75th Diamond Anniversary an attempt to break the Guinness World Record for Longest Line of Pancakes on Monday, February 12th, at the Seward County Activity Center.

The current record for Longest Line of Pancakes stands at 429ft and was set on Shrove Tuesday, 2020 in London, England. The attempt on Monday the 12th plans to double that record, and is projected to be 950ft – 1000ft long, using nearly 2000 pancakes, spread out on a 118ft long table, in 6ft letters, spelling out “75th International Pancake Day.”

On Monday visitors are encouraged to stop by, take pictures and cheer on the IPD Team as they attempt to set a new Guinness World Record for Longest Line of Pancakes. Time TBD.

After the event concludes, IPD will be donating the 2000 pancakes provided by Liberal IHOP to the Liberal Food Cupboards at Puerta del Cielo, South Church of God, First Southern Baptist Church, Community Baptist Church and the Liberal Area Coalition for Families, who will distribute to local folks in need. We are so pleased to work with Joe Denoyer, Director of the Food Cupboard for First Southern Baptist Church, for his assistance in distributing the pancakes.

Our goal at The International Pancake Day event is to bring hunger awareness to food insecurity in our community. The USDA defines food insecurity as a lack of consistent access to enough food for every person in a household to live an active & healthy life.

The great reveal of the actual finished measurements will take place at the Grand Marshall’s Reception that evening at the Baker Arts Center from 6-8pm.
