Liberal’s Bobby Orr blasted a pair of three run home runs as the Liberal Bee Jays topped the Hays Larks 9-4 Wednesday night at Larks Park in Hays. The Bee Jays move back into first place in the Rocky Mountain.
The Larks scored two in the first against B.J. starter Josh Doerr. Liberal bounced back in the fourth to lead 3-2. Miller Durham ripped a double to left center to lead off the inning. Matt Cormier followed that up with a single to left. Bobby Orr launched a three run home run to left to give Liberal the 3-2 lead. Hays chased home a run in the sixth to tie it at 3-3. Liberal scored five runs with two outs in the seventh. Ben Merriman singled with two outs. Lane Snow ripped a double down the left field line. Miller Durham reached on an error to score the lead run. Matt Cormier ripped a single to left for the 5-3 lead. Bobby Orr hit a three run home run off the Larks Park scoreboard in right to lead 8-3. Hays scored an unearned run in the seventh. The Bee Jays added insurance in the eighth. Matt Mendez singled and raced home on Ben Merriman’s double to left center.
Jos Doerr earned the win going six innings allowing three runs. Brooks Kappelmann pitched two innings without allowing an earned run. Logan Wade worked a scoreless ninth. Bobby Orr was Epic Touch Player of the Game going 2-4 with two home runs and six RBI’s. Ben Merriman, Miller Durham, and Matt Cormier had two hits a piece. Both teams had 11 hits. Liberal committed two errors and Hays had one.
Hays is 21-7 overall and 16-5 in the Rocky Mountain. Liberal is 19-4 overall and 17-4 in the Rocky Mountain. Liberal hosts the Colorado Roughriders Friday night at 7pm with the Dugout Show at 6:45 on 1270 and 92.3. Billy’s Ayr Lanes is the buyout sponsor.
