Only Minor Injuries Reported In School Bus/Pasenger Car Accident

Friday morning at approximately 7:30am, the Stevens County Sherriffs Department investigated a two vehicle accident three miles East of Hugoton on Highway 51. A 2005 Chevy Malibu being driven by Kristen Schnittker,19, of Hugoton was was travelling East on Highway 51 when she collided with the rear of a U.S.D. 210 school bus being driven by 65 year old Beverly Crane also of Hugoton. The school bus had slowed to make a left hand turn into a private driveway. According to Sheriff Ted Heaton, the sun shining into Ms. Schnittker’s eyes was a contributing factor in the accident, Ms. Schnittker was transported to the Stevens County Hospital with minor injuries. There were no injuries to Mrs. Crane or any students on the school bus. Undersheriff Rex Evans of the Stevens County Sheriffs Department investigated the accident.
