Seward County’s offensive struggles over the past week carried over into the weekend as the Lady Saints made the hour-long trip down the road for a matchup with the Dodge City Conquistadors where SCCC could barely put two-points together in what finalized into a 3-0 sweep in favor of the home Conqs.

Seward County fell into a deep hole early in set one as Dodge City started the match with a 6-0 run before a block at the net from Lajla Rasljanin and Keala Wilson resulted in the first point of the match for the Lady Saints. Marcelina Pyka helped SCCC grow their point total to three with a spike down the middle of the court after an 8-0 run from the Conqs grew the Lady Saints’ deficit into double digits. Seward County managed to grow their total to try and compete with the ferocious Conquistadors as Mariana Silva knocked a kill off a block to put her team over the ten-point mark but fell soon after with DC3 taking set one 25-11.

Pyka helped the Lady Saints start the second set with some firepower as the sophomore middle won a joust at the net to kick off a 3-0 lead to open the second. Dodge City answered back quickly to take over the set with a 12-8 lead to force Seward County into a timeout to try and find the right response to shift gears back in their favor. Wilson scored a quick kill from the pin after the timeout to keep the score close while an ace a few points later from Lisa Gomez kept the difference at five with DC3 leading 20-15. A 5-0 run by the Conqs to end the set handed the Lady Saints a 25-15 loss in set two while also putting them behind two sets to none in the match.

Set three was a serious case of déjà vu for Seward County as they fell behind 6-0 to Dodge City to open the third with the Lady Saints looking for some kind of answer to the Conqs onslaught. A pair of points for SCCC allowed them to get on the board while Pyka once again rose up for another kill to make the score 19-3 in favor of DC3. Seward County could only score three more points in the final set of the night as Dodge City ended set three 25-6 over the Lady Saints who fell in a 3-0 sweep on the road.

Seward County falls to 5-11 overall on the 2024 season while dropping to 2-5 in KJCCC action. They will return back home to end September inside of the Green House when the Lady Saints face the Lamar Lopes for the second time this season at 6:00 PM.
