Zelma Rust

Zelma Mary Rust, age 98, of Elkhart, Kansas died Tuesday, May 03, 2011 at the Morton County Hospital in Elkhart, Kansas. She was born May 03, 1913 in Avard, Oklahoma the daughter of Alvert N. and Orpha Roberta (Edmonston) Barber.
Zelma a homemaker, lived in Lakin, Kansas for several years. She married William M. Rust on May 26, 1934 in Lakin. She lived in various cities in Colorado including Lamar before moving to Elkhart in 1980. Zelma enjoyed bowling, embroidery work and baking pies. She was known as the “Pie Lady”. She was a member of the Women’s International Bowling Association, the United Methodist Church in Lamar, Colorado and attended the Church of God in Elkhart, Kansas.
Survivors include one son, John Wesley Rust of Rawlins, Wyoming; three daughters, Donna Lee Sanders of Bellingham, Washington, Peggy Joyce Lyons of Rochester, New York, Shirley Ann Ketchum of Elkhart, Kansas; seven grandchildren, Paul Davis, Kendra Thomason, Julie Somers, David Lyons, John William Rust, Matthew Hartley, Nathan Hartley; 13 great grandchildren and 5 great-great-grandchildren.
Zelma is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Bill in 1984; three brothers; three sisters; and grandson, Allan Davis.
Graveside service will be held Saturday, May 07, 2011 at 10:00 AM, CST at the Fairmount Cemetery in Lamar, Colorado. A memorial service will be held at 3:00 PM, CST, Saturday, May 07, 2011 at the First Church of God in Elkhart, Kansas with Reverend Gary Murrell officiating. Friends may call Friday, May 06, 2011 from 2:00 PM until 6:00 PM at Garnand Funeral Home in Elkhart. Memorials may be given to the Morton County Special Care Unit, Whistle Stop Park or the donor’s choice all in care of Garnand Funeral Home, PO Box 854, Elkhart, KS 67950.
