Yvonne Pepper

Yvonne Pepper, age 83, passed from this earth to her heavenly home on Tuesday, January 19, 2021, at St. Ann’s Nursing Center in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.  She was born December 5, 1937, in Eldorado, Oklahoma, the daughter of Dillon H. and Thelma F. (Easley) Shumaker.

 

Yvonne grew up in Eldorado and graduated from high school in 1956.  She continued her education and earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Home Economics from Bethany Nazarene College.  Yvonne moved to Johnson, Kansas, in 1960 where she took a teaching position.  She found the love of her life, L. LaVere Pepper, just a few miles north in Syracuse, Kansas, and the two of them married on December 26, 1961, in Eldorado, Oklahoma.  Yvonne enjoyed being a mother, homemaker, and teacher all her life.  She was a life time member of Bethel Church of the Nazarene where she was a church board member, a Nazarene Missions director and a pianist for many years.  She loved playing the piano, singing and reading God’s Word.  She was a true prayer warrior to all who knew her.  

 

Yvonne will be fondly remembered by her daughter-in-law, Karen Pepper of Yukon, Oklahoma; grandchildren, Kiel Pepper and his wife Liberty of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and Kendra Houston and her husband Prescott of Geary, Oklahoma, along with three great-grandchildren, Riggins Houston, Emma Pepper and Levi Pepper.  She is also survived by a brother, Milton Shumaker and his wife Barbara of Eldorado, Oklahoma; nephew, Raylon Shumaker and his wife Michelle of Eldorado, Oklahoma; and numerous other family and friends. 

 

Yvonne is preceded in death by her parents, Dillon and Thelma Shumaker; husband, LaVere Pepper; and her only son, Allyn Pepper. 

 

Graveside memorial service will be 10:00 AM on Saturday, January 30, 2021, at Stanton County Cemetery in Johnson, Kansas, with Pastor Paul Shellenberger officiating.  The public is encouraged to wear masks and social distance.  The service will also be streamed live on Garnand Funeral Home Facebook page.   Memorial contributions may be given to Bethel Church of the Nazarene Missions Program in care of Garnand Funeral Home, PO Box 715, Johnson, KS  67855.  Condolences may be posted at www.garnandfuneralhomes.com.
