Yolanda Gonzales, age 68, of Ulysses, Kansas, died Wednesday, May 16, 2018, at her home. She was born September 3, 1949, in Beeville, Texas, the daughter of Locario “Lucky” and Maria (Adames) Perez.
Yolanda married Leopoldo “Lee” Gonzales on January 15, 1966. She attended the Cosmetology program at Garden City Community College. She was a beautician from 1977 – 1983. Yolanda was a member of Mary, Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Ulysses. She was a Director of Caritas and led a prayer group at the church. Yolanda was always helping anyone in need.
She is survived by her husband, Lee of their home; sons, Ernie Gonzales of Ulysses, Kansas, Rodney Gonzales of Lakin, Kansas, and James Gonzales of Fort Worth, Texas; daughter, Jessica Heath of Ulysses, Kansas; brothers, Richard Perez, Robert Perez, Rudy Perez, and Raul Perez all of Ulysses, Kansas, Ramie Perez of Trinidad, Colorado, and Ruben Perez of Liberal, Kansas; sisters, Dora Garza of Ulysses, Kansas, and Viola Branson of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida; 12 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. “I love you to heaven and back, and you can’t go any further than that.”
Yolanda is preceded in death by her parents, Lucky and Maria Perez.
Vigil and rosary service will be Friday, May 18, 2018, at 7:00 PM and funeral mass will be Saturday, May 19, 2018, at 10:00 AM both at Mary, Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Ulysses, Kansas, with Reverend Peter Fernandez officiating. Friends may call Thursday, May 17, 2018 from 2:00 PM until 8:00 PM and Friday, May 19, 2018 from 10:00 AM until 4:00 PM at Garnand Funeral Home in Ulysses. Interment will follow at Ulysses Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be given to the Breast Cancer Awareness Foundation or St. Catherine Hospice in care of Garnand Funeral Home, 405 W. Grant Ave, Ulysses, KS 67880.
