Wilma N. Winger

Wilma N. Winger, age 89, of Johnson, Kansas died Tuesday, November 5, 2013 at St. Catherine Hospital in Garden City, Kansas. She was born February 21, 1924 in Rural Brewster, Sherman County, Kansas the daughter of William Thompson and Mary Adriane (Kane) Jones.

Wilma moved with her family to Stanton County when she was 2 years old. She was a graduate of Johnson High School and was the valedictorian for the Class of 1942. Wilma moved to Garden City, Kansas in 1971, but returned to Johnson, Kansas in the 1990s. Wilma worked for the Stanton County and Finney County ASCS from 1963-1993. She was a member of Fields Memorial Wesleyan Church, Johnson, Kansas. Wilma taught Sunday school for 50 years and served as the treasurer at the Big Bow and Garden City Wesleyan Church. Wilma was active in the Johnson community. She was a 4-H sewing leader and was a member of the Pleasant Hour Club.

On December 25, 1941, Wilma married Frederick Dale Winger in Johnson, Kansas. He preceded her in death on May 4, 1948.

Survivors include two daughters, Nancy Ricker and husband Nelson of Walsh, Colorado and Margaret Hook and husband Calvin of Syracuse, Kansas, 9 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren.

Wilma is also preceded in death by her parents, one son; F. Kent Winger, one grandson; Marlin Dale Ricker, one great-grand child Kaitlyn Ricker and one sister; Mary Margaret Dimitt Wilkerson.

Funeral service will be held Friday, November 8, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at Fields Memorial Wesleyan Church, Johnson, Kansas. Burial will follow at the Stanton County Cemetery, Johnson, Kansas. Friends may call on Thursday, November 7 from 2:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Garnand Funeral Home, Johnson, Kansas.
