William F Haney “Bill”; age 73, of Johnson, Kansas, passed away Tuesday, June 6, 2017. He was born January 24, 1944, on a farm in Atoka County, Oklahoma, the son of Earlon Leslie and Adell (Cecil) Haney.

Bill started school in 1950. In 1961, he started driving a mail route for his Grandpa Cecil before and after school. He finished school in 1962 and moved to Johnson, Kansas, where his parents had moved the previous year. He went to work for Vern Thompson farming & ranching. He was then drafted in June 1965 and served two years in the United States Army. He returned to Johnson in June 1967 to work for Vern.

He married Beverley Frazee on August 22, 1970, at the Baptist Church in Walsh, Colorado. They made their home five miles south of Johnson on the Thompson farm. Continuing to work for Vern, they bought farm and pasture land south of Johnson and started raising cattle. About 1984, Bill started working for Stanton County Noxious Weed Department. He retired from the County in January 2012. Bill loved his kids and supported them in their various activities and life journeys. He served on various boards throughout the county including 4-H Advisory, Soil Conservation, and was an active member of the VFW Post #3684.

Bill is survived by his wife, Beverley of the home; son, Billy Haney and wife Tori of Lakin; daughters, Jana Garcia, and LeAnn Yohn and husband Travis all of Johnson; brother, Cecil Haney and wife Dorothy of Salina; sisters, Louise Broyles of Ulysses, Shirley Gleason of Salina, and Barbara Weins and husband Steve of Haysville; and numerous nieces and nephews. His pride and joy were his seven grandkids, Hunter, Maja, and Madison Haney, Caylan Garcia, and Kylor, Aysiah, and Derek Yohn.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Earlon and Adell Haney; father-in-law, Ernest Fay Frazee; brother, Doug Haney; brothers-in-law, Bob Broyles and Michael Gleason; and sister-in-law, Verlene Murray.

Funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM on Saturday, June 10, 2017, at Fields Memorial Wesleyan Church in Johnson, with Reverend Kurt Rovenstine officiating. Interment will follow at the Stanton County Cemetery in Johnson, Kansas with military graveside rites conducted by VFW Post #3684. Friends may call from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM on Friday, June 9, 2017, at Garnand Funeral Home in Johnson.
