William “Bill” Ray Long, 68, of Satanta, KS formerly of Liberal, passed away on Saturday February 3, 2024, in Liberal, KS.
Bill was born on December 14, 1955, in Beaver, OK to Kenneth and Marilyn (Stam) Long.
He attended schools in Liberal and graduated from Liberal High School in 1974. He was awarded basketball scholarships at Amarillo, TX Jr. College and Seward County Community College in Liberal, KS. He graduated from Seward County Community College with an Associate of Arts degree. Bill continued his education at Brigham Young University, graduating in 1984 with a Master’s in Mechanical Engineering. He served a two-year mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter – day Saints. Bill worked for Beech Aircraft, he then studied and received his pilot’s license. He was the owner and operator of Heart Roofing. He was a member of the Kansas Fargo Masonic Lodge #300 in Liberal. Bill loved flying, playing basketball, was an avid runner, bicyclist, swimmer, and participated in Triathlon’s.
Bill is survived by his sisters, Kathaleen (Stu) Wedel, Susan (Rick) Ottaway, and Stephanie (Humberto) Long de Cruz, four nephews, Mike Ottaway, Phillip Wedel, Humberto Cruz Long, and Stephan Cruz Long; one niece, Marilyn Cruz Long.
He was preceded in death by his parents Kenneth and Marilyn Long, and his nephew Jordan Ottaway.
There will be no viewing as cremation has taken place.
A private family Inurnment will be held at a later date in the Harrisburg Cemetery, Harrisburg, MO.
