William “Bill” Kent

Joe Denoyer - December 30, 2023 12:56 pm

William “Bill” Kent of Fishers, Indiana passed away Tuesday, December 19, 2023, in Fishers. He was born October 1, 1973, to Ray and Roxie (Eaton) Kent in Beaver, Oklahoma.

Bill suffered from Marfans syndrome, just like our Mom and other family members. At an early age he realized he was going to need a good education to provide a good living for himself due to his health.

Bill graduated from Liberal high school in 1992. He started his college education at Seward County Community College. Bill didn’t have a driver’s license at this time due to his poor eyesight from Marfans, so he would walk 3 miles one way to earn an Associate of Applied Science Degree from Seward County Community College in Computer Information Systems. Continuing his education, he then went on to earn a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Information Systems from DeVry Institute of Technology in Kansas City.

He worked 25 years as a Senior Information Technology Specialist for the Department of Defense working with the Marines and the Navy. He took great pride in his job, where he wrote many computer programs the military uses today.

Bill was able to get ICL eye surgery in his mid-30’s making it possible to drive a car and enjoy many new things we often tend to take for granted.

Bill enjoyed working countless hours on our family ancestry finding ancestors back to the 1600’s and possibly beyond. He also enjoyed bowling and fishing. He had an extensive knowledge of and love for a wide range of music and musicians often flying overseas to attend their concerts.

Bill is survived by his brother Taylor and wife Jodi of Liberal, four nieces, and two great nieces.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents.

A visitation will be held, Tuesday, January 2, 2024, from 11:00 AM to 7:00 PM.
Funeral Services will be at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, January 3, 2024, both at the Hornung Family Funeral Home Chapel, 1212 W. 2nd Street, Liberal, Kansas.
Interment will follow the service at the Hugoton Cemetery in Hugoton, Kansas. Pastor David Harris will officiate the services.
