Wendell B. Fox, Jr., age 80, passed away Saturday afternoon, July 31, 2021, at his residence in Colwich, Kansas.
He was born November 10, 1940, at Liberal, Kansas, the son of Wendell Boyd and Mildred Vivian (Farrar) Fox. He grew up south of Plains on the family farm with his sister, Gail, and brother, Warren.
He attended Plains Grade School and graduated from Plains High School in 1958. He spent one year at WU and later transferred to the University of Kansas. He then returned to Plains, and enlisted in the National Guard serving until 1961. While serving in the National Guard he lived in Plains and worked for the Plains Equity Exchange. In 1963 he attended the Wichita Business School and later Wichita State University, receiving his Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration in 1968. He accepted an accounting position with Peat, Marwick & Company in Denver, Colorado as a staff accountant. In 1971, he accepted the position of Assistant Division Controller of Dillon’s Stores and later became Assistant Corporate Controller of Dillon’s in 1973. In 1975, he returned to Plains and began farming with his father, retiring in 2012.
He was a member of the Plains Friends Church, the Masonic Lodge, and the CO-OP. He enjoyed woodworking, hunting, traveling with his family, waterskiing, snow skiing, and spend time with his family and friends.
On April 11, 1964, he married Sharon Rae Wilson at the Plymouth Congregational Church in Wichita, Kansas.
He is survived by two sons, Douglas Boyd Fox and wife Trista of rural Plains, Kansas, and James Bradley Fox and wife Kelly of Colwich, Kansas; a brother, Warren Fox and wife Susan of rural Plains, Kansas; a sister, Gail Reiss of Woodward, Oklahoma; and three grandchildren, Erin Fox, Cayden Fox, and Remi Fox.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Sharon on July 27, 2014; and his parents.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, August 7, 2021, at the Plains Friends Church. Friends may call from 3:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. Friday, August 7, at Fidler-Orme-Bachman Mortuary, Meade, with the family present to receive friends. Interment will follow the services in the Plains Cemetery, Plains.
