Wayne Adams

Coy Wayne Adams, age 84, of Manter, Kansas died Monday, January 20, 2014 at Satanta Long Term Care Unit in Satanta, Kansas.

He was born June 3, 1929 at Bradleyville, Missouri to Simon Lee and Georgia Pauline Gray Adams. They moved to Selah, Washington during his early childhood where he attended school until the 9th grade. In 1946, he moved to Manter, Kansas where he met Martha, his loving wife of 66 years. They were married August 27, 1947 in Clayton, New Mexico.

Wayne was a member of the Manter United Methodist Church and a member of the Masonic Lodge #441 in Johnson, Kansas for more than 50 years. He was a long time cancer survivor and enjoyed fishing, camping, traveling, his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and Relay for Life. He loved country and gospel music and played the piano, organ, and guitar by ear. In his early years he was a Ham Radio Operator and enjoyed talking to people across the United States and Canada.

In 1984, he retired as Manter City Superintendent after 15 years of service. Prior to that, he farmed for Hoopingarner Brothers, Collingwood Grain elevator manager, and Adams Mobile Service Station owner operator.

Wayne is survived by his wife, Martha; daughter, Shirley and Duane Weisz of Garden City, Kansas; two sons, Troy and Cheryl of Johnson, Kansas; and Craig and Laneta of Hooker, Oklahoma; his grandchildren, Tyson and Wendi Adams; Adriana and Nicholas Gelwix; Ashley and Joe Heatherman; Shelby and Seth Unruh; Coy and Megan Adams; Brette Adams; Cory Tursini; two step-grandchildren, Chad Weisz and Clete Weisz; his great-grandchildren, Colton Adams; Aidan and Parker Gelwix; Harley Jo and Hailey Heatherman; Trek Unruh; and many nieces and nephews.

Wayne is preceded in death by his parents; a son, Larry Wayne; five brothers, Forrest and wife Elizabeth, Virgil, Raymond, Roy and Carl; and one sister, Dorothy Scribner.

Funeral service will be held at 10:30 AM on Friday, January 24, 2014 at the United Methodist Church in Manter, Kansas with Pastor Mary Courtney officiating. Interment will follow at the Stanton County Cemetery in Johnson, Kansas with burial rites conducted by Masonic Lodge #441. Friends may call Thursday, January 23, 2014 from 2:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Garnand Funeral Home in Johnson. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions may be given to the Johnson Masonic Lodge #441,Manter United Methodist Church or St. Catherine Hospice in care of Garnand Funeral Home, PO Box 715, Johnson, Kansas 67855.
