Warren Delano Angell

Joe Denoyer - February 5, 2021 1:15 pm

Warren Delano Angell, 84, of Plains, KS, passed away on February 4, 2021, at Western Plains Medical Complex in Dodge City, KS.

He was born on April 4, 1936, in Liberal, KS, to Ernest “Buck” and Eva Mae (Coons) Angell.  Warren married Ruth Wilson of Meade, KS, on September 25, 1957, and lived his entire life in Plains.

Warren attended Plains Elementary and Plains High School.  Growing up, he worked for his dad on his dryland farm before moving on with other occupations, including working for the highway department, Wolfe Motors, John Greer, Thompson Auto, and Plainsman Manufacturing.  He then began farming near Tribune, KS.  In 1960 he went to work for the City of Plains as water and street supervisor, and he later worked at the Ford body shop in Meade.  He picked up some land to farm around Plains and painted tractors as a side job, which began his love for restoring old cars and pickups.  His big farming break came in 1971 when Kirby Clawson offered him up irrigated land to farm for him. He continued to farm until he retired.

Warren loved to go to Table Rock Lake if the opportunity was there.  He also enjoyed playing golf, putting puzzles together, playing guitar, dancing, and even did some oil painting.  He was a very opinionated person, so all arguments were won by him—just ask the old coffee group!

Warren is survived by his wife, Ruth, of Plains; his children Shari (Bernie) Kitten of Salina, KS, Layne (Billie) Angell of Plains, and Kimberly Angell of Dodge City; and his brother Norman (Jayne) Angell of Carson City, NV.

Also celebrating his life are seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren:  Kristin (Austin) Massoth of Prairie Village, KS, and daughters Aubrey and Kate, and Lisa (Nik) Martin of Bucyrus, KS, and sons Hudson and Cole; Kyler Angell of Plains and Madison Angell of Memphis, TN; and Wade, Wyatt, and Raeleigh Angell of Hugoton, KS.

He was preceded in death by his parents and by a son, Barry Angell.

Private family graveside services will be held in the Plains Cemetery.

The family would welcome memorials to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital or the charity of the donor’s choice in care of Fidler-Orme-Bachman Mortuary, Meade.
