Virginia Lou Skinner passed away at Pioneer Manor on Sunday, March 16, 2025. She was 94. She was born in her parents’ home, Harold and Grace Hatfield, Belle Plaine, Kansas on March 14, 1931. She attended Valley Home School for her first eight years of school and graduated from Belle Plaine High School. She married her high school sweetheart, Darrell Skinner. They soon relocated to Southwestern Kansas to farm with his father. This was his dream! They were blessed with a daughter, Sheryl, and a son, Randy.
Virginia had many hobbies and interests. She loved her yard of blooming flowers for each season. Virginia was an accomplished seamstress and quilt maker. She had many other favorites. She enjoyed crocheting, china painting, knitting and cooking. She made and completed a quilt for each child and grandchild. Virginia considered her family the most beautiful creation of all. This was all stitched together by memories and love. Mom was an avid collector of memories. All because two people fell in love! Thank you, Mom and Dad!
For Mom the best of times was when the family was together. She was sure to have cookies available when family and friends stopped by to visit. When they left she would stand at the door waving. So, with that said, we are all waving a blessed farewell until we meet again. Virginia will always be with us!
Darrell and Virginia enjoyed their life together as a farm family. They were a “forever” couple. They were usually together and enjoyed each day. When Dad completed his last harvest, he told Mom to draw up her plans for their “dream” home. She did! They were blessed with spending eleven more years of city life together.
Darrell and Virginia enjoyed their three grandchildren. They spent one week each summer together. The folks, Jennifer, Shawna and Clinton always planned their road trip together. They always had fun and made many happy memories. (we still hear some giggles from time to time!) Virginia was supportive and proud of her children, grandchildren and great-grandkids. Dad and Mom enjoyed being included in their lives.
Virginia belonged to the Lone Star Friends Church, Rural Woods, and served the church in multiple roles across many years.
Virginia is survived by her daughter, Sheryl (Wes) Barricklow of Topeka, KS; daughter-in-law, Linda Skinner of Hugoton, KS; three grandchildren, Jennifer Barricklow of Topeka, KS, Shawna (Laird) Riffel of Abilene, KS, and Clinton (Marcala) Skinner of Hugoton, KS; five great-grandchildren, Mackenzie Riffel of Clay Center, KS, Madison (Casey) Craver of Carlton, KS, Spencer Riffel of Concordia, KS, Ava Skinner of Hugoton, KS, and Eli Skinner of Hugoton, KS.
Virginia was preceded in death by her parents, husband Darrell, son Randy, brother Bud Hatfield, and sister Gladys Haskell.
The family would like to thank Pioneer Manor. Virginia enjoyed her time at Pioneer Manor. She was well cared for by the staff and shown many acts of kindness. She called the Manor her home and regarded the residents and staff her family. Virginia was happy and felt very blessed. Thank you!!
