Virginia Amerin

After years of hard work and loving her family, Virginia Amerin went home on May 28, 2018, at the age of 87, in Johnson, Kansas. She was born April 5, 1931, in Sterling, Colorado, the daughter of John and Anna (Ertle) Gertner. Virginia was one of 13 children.
Virginia grew up in Sterling and graduated from Padroni High School. She met and later married Ralph Amerin on November 28, 1950, in Sterling, Colorado. They moved to Stanton County in 1954. Throughout their marriage, Virginia was a homemaker and mother of two boys; Jim and Bill, and three girls; Kathy, Cheryl and Carol. Virginia helped on the farm, also moved pipe, drove a truck and prepared many meals during harvest time. She was a K-State fan, loved to play softball, and attend her kids, grandkids, and great-grandkids events. She cherished the time spent with her children, children’s families, and her many friends. Virginia was member of St. Bernadette Catholic Church and Altar Society.
She is survived by her husband, Ralph of their home; children, Kathy Lippert and husband Brian of Wamego, Kansas, Jim Amerin and wife Lori, Cheryl Wilkerson and husband Tony, Carol Garrison, and Bill Amerin and wife Candee all of Johnson; three brothers, Ben Gertner, Glenn Gertner and Lawrence Gertner all of Sterling, Colorado; sisters, Clara Marie of Sterling, Colorado, Sister Leanetta Gertner of Wisconsin, Margaret Claplin of Denver, Colorado, and Josephine Amerin of Plains, Kansas; 13 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Dave, Mark, John, and Donnie; and sister, Anna Mary.
Vigil service will be held at 7:00 PM on Thursday, May 31, 2018, and funeral mass will be held at 10:00 AM on Friday, June 1, 2018, both at the St. Bernadette Catholic Church in Johnson, Kansas, with Reverend Peter Fernandez officiating. Interment will follow at the Stanton County Cemetery in Johnson, Kansas. Friends may call from 10:00 AM until 5:00 PM on Thursday, May 31, 2018, at Garnand Funeral Home in Johnson.
