Virgil Floyd VanHooser, age 55, of Lakin, Kansas, died Sunday, July 22, 2018, at High Plains Retirement Village in Lakin, Kansas. He was born March 2, 1963, in Johnson, Kansas, the son of Allen Earl and Mary Joan (Wilson) VanHooser.

Virgil grew up in Johnson and graduated from Stanton County High School. He married Lois Begley on October 25, 1986, in Johnson, Kansas. Virgil had been a yard manager for WDT in Ulysses and also drove a milk truck. He enjoyed bowling and spending time with family, friends, and his dogs.

He is survived by his son, Albert Orosco of Dubuque, Kansas; step-son, Allen Pucket and wife Tiffany of Portland, Oregon; step-daughters, Felicia Barnes of Garden City, Kansas, Amanda Thiede of Dodge City, Kansas, and Rashelle Englehardt of Hobbs, New Mexico; brother, Earl VanHooser and wife Kristi of Johnson, Kansas; uncle, Gordon VanHooser of Andover, Kansas; aunt, Maria Freeman of Arlington, Washington; 12 grandchildren; and numerous other family members. 

He is preceded in death by his parents; and wife, Lois.

Funeral service will be 10:00 AM on Saturday, July 28, 2018, at Fields Memorial Wesleyan Church in Johnson, Kansas with Reverend Kurt Rovenstine officiating. Interment will follow at the Stanton County Cemetery in Johnson, Kansas. Friends may call from 2:00 PM until 8:00 PM on Friday, July 27, 2018, at Garnand Funeral Home in Johnson.
