Vernon J. Gustus

Vernon J. Gustus, age 85, passed away Wednesday evening, January 27, 2021, at the Meade District Hospital, Meade, Kansas.
He was born December 1, 1935, at Lyons, Kansas, the son of Paul and Dorothy (Ankerholtz) Gustus. As a young boy, he attended school in Little River, Kansas, graduating from Little River High School in 1954. He later attended Sterling College, receiving his Bachelor of Science degree in 1969.
After his graduation, he began his career with the Michigan-Wisconsin Pipeline, moving to Fowler in 1969. After many years of service, he retired from the pipeline as a supervisor.
He was a member of the United Methodist Church, the Masonic Lodge, and the Shrine. He enjoyed playing golf, bowling, collecting model steam trains, fixing various items around the house, watching the University of Kansas Jayhawks, and spending time with his family and friends.
On June 17, 1956, he married Saundra S. Sisson at Geneseo, Kansas. She precedes him in death on January 14, 2021.
He is survived by three daughters, Beverly Fuller of Gateway, Colorado, Robyn Wiggins of Casa Grande, Arizona, and Cindy Jones of Liberal, Kansas; two sisters, Carla Knoop of Mississippi, and Roberta Whitworth of Kansas; six grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents and a granddaughter, Anna.
Cremation has taken place. Memorial services will be held at a later date for Vernon and Saundra with interment in the Fowler Cemetery.
