Verleen Hancock

Verleen Hancock, age 82, of Hugoton, Kansas, died Saturday, October 22, 2022, at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita, Kansas. She was born June 11, 1940, in Liberal, Kansas, the daughter of Ted and Vera (Harnden) Patterson. 

At the age of two years old, Verleen moved with her family to the farm near Cimarron. She graduated from Friends Haviland Academy in 1958. After Verleen married Ervin Hancock on June 15, 1958, in Cimarron, they moved to Hugoton. She worked for Gray & Rosel in Hugoton. Verleen and her husband started Hancock Electric in 1965. Verleen was an active partner in the business and worked in the office from 1980-2010. As a member of Bethel Friends Church, she served as a Sunday school teacher for 50 years and was instrumental in moving the church to town. Verleen also served on the Board of Directors for Mosaic in Garden City, Kansas. She loved quilting, cooking, and gardening. Verleen took great joy in playing with, praying for and encouraging her grand and great-grandchildren.

Verleen is survived by her husband, Ervin of their home; children, DeAnna Linville and husband Jeff of Douglass, Kansas, Galen Hancock and wife Cynthia of Hugoton, Kansas, and Douglas Hancock of Garden City, Kansas; sisters, Billie Conant of Twin Falls, Idaho, Lois Wells and husband Bill of Wichita, Kansas, Mary Ann Gunn and husband Don of Parker, Colorado, eight grandchildren, Christy Gendron and husband Adam, Gabriel Hancock and wife Sarah, Eric Linville and wife Michelle, Daniel Linville and wife Jill, Michael Linville and wife Kathryn, Colton Linville and wife Janae, Spencer Linville and wife Cara, and Savannah Waller and husband Jesse; and great-grandchildren, Isaiah, Isabel, Lydia, Quinley, Eli, Graham, Abel, Eleanor, Helen, Nehemiah, Asher, Hannah, Levi, Abigail, Benjamin, Ervin, Abraham, Elaine, Samuel, Emily, Audrey, Nola, Jack, Kane, Lorelai and John.

Verleen is preceded in death by her parents, Ted and Vera Patterson; sisters, Tina Knight and Delicia Cutright; and brothers, Denzel Patterson and Duane Patterson.

Funeral service will be 2:00 PM on Friday, October 28, 2022, at Bethel Friends Church in Hugoton, Kansas, with Pastor David Crisp officiating. Graveside service will be 2:00 PM on Saturday, October 29, 2022, at Hillside Cemetery in Toledo Township in Chase County, Kansas. Visitation will be Thursday, October 27, 2022, from 2:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Garnand Funeral Home, 920 E. 11th St. in Hugoton.
