Verda E. McCune

Verda E. McCune, age 86, died Monday evening, May 16, 2016, at the Shepherd’s Center, Cimarron, Kansas.

She was born April 27, 1930, in rural Ness County, Kansas, the daughter of Frank Edward and Ethel Lucy (Kanaga) Mauch. As a young girl she attended the Dodge City school system, graduating from Dodge City High School.

On April 17, 1949, she married Wallace Gene McCune at Dodge City, Kansas. After their marriage, the couple made their home in rural Meade County where she and her husband farmed and raised their family.

She was a member of the United Methodist Church and served as a Sunday School teacher, PTA, and several bridge clubs. She enjoyed bird watching, sewing, painting, playing bridge, crafts, and copper work.

She is survived by:

A son, Scott McCune and wife Barbara of rural Meade, Kansas

Two daughters, Terry Osborne of Silex, Missouri

Jean Cole of Larned, Kansas

A brother, Thayne Mauch of Walla Walla, Washington

Two sisters, Etheled Marshall of Minneola, Kansas

Vada Amy of Minneola, Kansas

Five grandchildren Three great-grandchildren

She is preceded in death by her husband on June 21, 1986, and three brothers, Glenn, Claire, and Hollis Mauch.

Memorial services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, May 21, 2016, at Fidler-Orme-Bachman Mortuary, Meade. There will be no public visitation as cremation has taken place. Inurnment will follow in the Graceland Cemetery, Meade.

The family would welcome memorials to the Alzheimer’s Association in care of the funeral home.
