Valentin Rey Estrada, Age 57 of Liberal, Kansas passed away on Monday, March 13, 2023. He was born September 7, 1965, in El Paso, Texas to Hector Rey Hurueta and Eloisa Estrada Bilbao.
After Graduating from high school and while attending college, Valentin decided to join the Army. He served at the rank of sergeant in the Army for 6 years, spending most of his service in Germany.
After his commitment he returned to the El Paso area and reunited with his love from Mexico, Rosalia Duran. They were married in 1991 in Mexico.
He was the father of Bianca, Carlos, and Hector Rey, all of Liberal.
“Vale” worked in maintenance at Seaboard Foods.
He was known to be very much a gentleman, always very calm, composed, giving and honest. He was enormously proud of his family, hardworking, and a great repair person around the house. Vale took great joy helping his children with homework and motivating them to do their best. He was enormously proud when they graduated from high school.
He loved going to movies, eating at Taco Bell, Burger King and Braums. Traveling was a great joy for him, as he loved exploring nature, and caves, going to the beach and visiting family. He was also honored to have family come to Liberal, he took great pleasure in showing them around Liberal where he enjoyed living.
Valentine enjoyed sports, mostly Football, Baseball and Soccer. He liked to swim and workout to keep in shape.
Vale had a very strong faith in God and was a true believer in the power of prayer.
Rosalia Rey, Age 50, passed away on March 13, 2023, in Liberal, Kansas. She was born September 3, 1972, in Mexico to Jesus Duran Guerrero and Aurora Hernandez Portillo. In 1991 she married her husband of 32 years, Valentin Rey Estrada. She was the mother of Bianca Rey, Carlos Rey, and Hector Rey, of Liberal, Kansas.
Rosalia was a very hard-working hairstylist and most recently was employed at Liberal High School in food service. She took care of the snack bar where she was a mom to everyone, caring for the needs of the students, whatever they might need, that she could help with.
She was involved in caring for her health, eating healthy foods and smoothies, and exercising. She was very caring and giving to anyone she met. She loved to make people laugh. Spoiling family, friends and especially herself was just her nature. She enjoyed music, particularly harp and guitar. She was blessed with a very strong voice.
Rosalia spent countless hours sewing and knitting. She has made many blankets. She was taking classes at Seward County Community College in an effort to complete her education by getting her GED. Her faith and Bible study was also a passion of hers.
A visitation for both Rosalia and Valentin Rey will be held on Monday, April 17, 2023, from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM at the Hornung Family Funeral Home, 1212 West 2nd Street, Liberal Kansas.
Recitation of the Rosary will be Monday, April 17, 2023, at 7:00 PM.
Mass will be at 1:00 PM on Tuesday, April 18, 2023, both at St Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, 1510 North Calhoun Avenue, Liberal Kansas. Reverend Juan Salas will celebrate the Mass.
Interment will follow the Mass at the Liberal Cemetery.
